Gear Review: Enlightened Equipment Revelation Quilt
As a stomach and side sleeper I've always struggled with sleeping bags for camping or backpacking. I've tried almost every type from old school car camping sleeping bags to mummy bags and even the new spoon shapes, but up until I got this EE Revelation I had never tried a quilt before.
I had heard quilts championed on the ultralight sites and of course seen them in the iconic Instagram shots, so I decided to give it a go. I was an easy sell. After a trial run backpacking in the enchantments this summer I was pretty much sold on quilts. Then we took it to Alaska this fall and I really fell in love with all of the features. It's incredibly light, packs smaller than any bag could, and allows me to sleep in whatever position I want without a hassle! Now, I have to mention that since there is no insulation material beneath you, it is necessary to have an insulated pad, so keep that in mind if you want to switch to a quilt style.
The coolest part about these quilts and bags is that they make them all here in the USA at their HQ in Minnesota. You choose your fabrics, colors, fills, lengths, etc and then the team whips it up and ships you your new bag or quilt in just a couple weeks. The specs I chose for mine were: Revelation / 6' Length / 54" Width / 10 Degree / 950 Fill / 20D Black Outside / 10D Black Inside. Want one quicker? Too many choices for you? No problem, they have plenty of bag and quilt styles available right off the shelf as well!
