Gear Review: SOG Backcountry Axe

I've shot photos for SOG for several years now. I'm a huge fan of their products. The fact that they are based out of my home state of Washington gives them a special spot high in my list of gear manufacturers. Needless to say when they sent me my Backcountry Axe, I was stoked to try it out!

The Backcountry Axe combines two things from SOG that regularly end up in my pack when I'm in the woods; An axe & a hand saw. Before I had the Backcountry Axe I was packing the SOG Folding Saw and the SOG Hand Axe. Having both in one package meant less weight, and more room. While I did lose a bit in the saw department, the extra five inches in the axe handle makes up for it. Another added bonus I didn't think about initially was that the the Backcountry Axe has a larger butt than the Hand Axe, making hammering in tent stakes MUCH easier! Overall, I really dig the axe and saw combo and would definitely recommend it.
