In 2015 I picked up the Sony a6000 from Amazon. It came with the standard kit lens, and with it I also bought the the Sony 10-18mm. Previously, I had been using a Canon T2i and while I didn’t have any major complaints with the T2i (other than being old), I decided to see what all the fuss was about with these new Sony mirrorless cameras.

For the first 3 months of 2018, Laura and I lived in southern Spain. While were there we did several shoots for the Danish clothing company Rains. While rain is not the first thing people think of when they think of the Costa Del Sol, we found ourselves in a heavy downpour and took advantage of the picture perfect weather for a street shoot in Malaga. I’m a huge fan of merino wool. It’s no secret anymore that it’s one of the best materials for outdoor enthusiasts like myself. Ever since I started shooting images for Minus 33 in 2016 I’ve been able to try out some of the best merino wool gear on the planet, and I’ve never taken this privilege for granted. This fall I was able to be apart of shooting some photographs for Minus 33’s upcoming 2019-2020 catalog. Laura and I went out into the woods for a few days and had blast shooting together. We came back with a ton of awesome images for Minus 33. Okay, lets start with something you might not know. The Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4G OSS is my most utilized lens, probably ever. It’s on my camera 80% of the time when I’m out shooting. Through using it regularly for the last several years, I’ve discovered it’s not the most popular lens, and I can understand why people might be afraid to try it out being that isn’t exactly cheap or extensively praised. Hopefully my review will help a few to give it try though.

In December 2017 we flew down to Arizona on some spare airline miles we had. Our plan was to fly into Phoenix, pick up our rental van, remove the seats, and turn the rented Chrysler Pacifica into a makeshift DIY camper van. The first step on our mission was to head to the local craft store to pickup some black construction paper and tape, with which we fastened up some DIY blackout window shades. Then we setup our backpacking air mattresses, sleeping bags, and our awesome Luminoodle light rope. Since we only brought carry on bags on the plane we couldn’t fit everything we needed to convert the van, so the last step was to stop and get some pillows, a little cooler, ice and some food. Once we finished all the prep work setting up and converting the rental van we headed north out of Phoenix. We weren’t sure where we were going to go, but after a little google searching en route we decided Sedona looked pretty cool and headed that direction.

I recently did an awesome engagement session out in Vaughn, Washington with my friends Violet & Alek. The shoot was located at a beautiful waterfront home surround by forest and fields on one side, and beautiful Vaughn bay on the other side. Being December in the PNW we had to watch the weather forecast to find a good window of clear skies. Luckily, the weather gods blessed us with a gorgeous Saturday afternoon and clear blue skies. Lets just address the main complaint first, price. Yes, it's expensive. All of the good Sony lenses designed for APS-C-format E-mount cameras are expensive. Why? Sony wants to make money of course. While I'm not happy about it, can you blame them?! In my opinion though, using a cheaper Sony mirrorless camera body like the a6500, a6300 (or even cheaper a6000) with expensive glass like the 10-18mm delivers beautiful images that can hang with any full frame camera body and lens combo. The only noticeable difference is the extra few thousand dollars you will have in your bank account to go do fun shit 😊.
